Scenic Kilimanjaro trek with hut accommodations and rich historical significance.
The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the most established path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a unique combination of history, comfort, and scenic beauty. As the oldest and only route with hut accommodations, it provides a more sheltered and comfortable trekking experience, making it an excellent choice for climbers who prefer dormitory-style stays over camping.
Starting from the lush tropical rainforest, the trail gradually ascends through diverse ecological zones, from moorlands to alpine deserts, before reaching the snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The route follows the same path for both ascent and descent, which makes it one of the more direct and well-maintained trails, but also a busier one compared to other Kilimanjaro routes.
This 8-day tour, including a 6-day trek, allows for better acclimatization, increasing the chances of a successful summit. Marangu is particularly suited for those climbing during the rainy seasons (March-May and October-December), as the hut accommodations provide dry and comfortable overnight stays. Whether you’re a first-time trekker or an experienced climber, this journey through Kilimanjaro’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes promises an unforgettable adventure.

Note: Hotel check-in starts at 2:00 PM.
After breakfast, you will be driven to Marangu Gate (1,970m / 6,462ft), the official starting point of your Kilimanjaro trek. Here, you will complete registration formalities, obtain climbing permits, and meet your trekking team.
Your trek begins through lush rainforest terrain, where you will experience the unique biodiversity of Kilimanjaro, including towering trees, exotic birds, and playful colobus monkeys. After a steady uphill hike, you will arrive at Mandara Hut (2,720m / 8,922ft), where your team will prepare lunch and assign sleeping accommodations in dormitory-style huts.
Altitude Considerations:
• Drink at least 4 liters of water daily.
• Be aware of potential altitude sickness symptoms such as headaches or nausea—inform your guide if you experience any discomfort.
Your trek continues through montane forests and moorlands, gradually transitioning into heather and open landscapes. Along the way, you will be rewarded with stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks.
Upon reaching Horombo Hut (3,720m / 12,204ft), you will have lunch and a well-deserved rest. In the afternoon, a short acclimatization hike towards Kibo Hut will help your body adjust to higher altitudes before returning to Horombo Hut for the night.
Acclimatization Hike:
• Altitude Gain: 200m (656ft)
• Hiking Distance: 2.5 km (1.5 miles)
• Hiking Time: 1-2 hours
This day is dedicated to altitude adaptation, ensuring your body is prepared for the challenges ahead. You will take a leisurely acclimatization hike towards Kibo Hut (4,500m / 14,763ft) before returning to Horombo Hut.
After lunch, you can explore the surrounding area, capturebreathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak, or simply relax before the trek to higher altitudes.
Today’s journey takes you across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks, characterized by alpine desert terrain with little vegetation. The trek is gradual but requires energy conservation for the upcoming summit attempt.
Upon arrival at Kibo Hut (4,720m / 15,482ft), you will be served lunch and given time to rest and hydrate. It is recommended to sleep early in preparation for the midnight summit attempt.
Your summit push begins just before midnight. You will trek steep, rocky terrain under starlit skies, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m / 18,652ft) before making your final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft)—the highest point in Africa!
After celebrating your achievement, you will descend to Kibo Hut for rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut (3,720m / 12,202ft) for the night.
Safety Note: The majority of trekking accidents occur during descent. Take care to avoid falls and injuries.
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through lush forests and scenic landscapes, returning to Marangu Gate (1,970m / 6,462ft).
At the gate, you will receive your summit certificates and celebrate your achievement with your trekking team. You will then be transferred back to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Yes, the Marangu Route is ideal for beginners due to its gradual ascent and hut accommodations. However, the 6-day itinerary is recommended over the 5-day option for better acclimatization.
The 6-day Marangu Route has a summit success rate of around 86.6% for Uhuru Peak. The 5-day itinerary has a lower success rate due to limited acclimatization.
Unlike other Kilimanjaro routes, the Marangu Route provides dormitory-style huts with bunk beds, mattresses, and pillows, offering more shelter during rainy seasons.
The best time to climb is during the dry seasons from January to early March and June to October. The huts also make it a suitable option for climbing during the rainy seasons.
While the Marangu Route has a gradual incline, it is not necessarily the easiest due to its shorter acclimatization period. The 6-day itinerary provides a better chance of success.
Daily trekking distances vary between 5 to 18 km, with summit day being the longest and most challenging stretch at 16 km (9.9 miles).
Essential items include layered clothing, a warm sleeping bag, a headlamp, trekking poles, gloves, and a waterproof jacket. A detailed packing list will be provided before the trek.
